A bill that would allow addiction treatment providers to hold a patient for up to 72 hours goes before a legislative committee Tuesday.

Gov. Charlie Baker proposed the bill, and during an event last week, he said his main intent is to create a better long-term treatment system.

Kurt Isaacson -- president and CEO of Spectrum Health Systems, the largest treatment provider in the state — spoke with WBUR about the legislation.

We also visited South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, and spoke there with Dr. Jason Tracy, chief of emergency medicine, and Patrick Kent, who leads ER recovery services for Gosnold.

This segment aired on January 16, 2018.
