UMass Trustees Vote To Raise In-State Tuition 2.5 Percent

University of Massachusetts trustees have voted to increase tuition rates by 2.5 percent for the 2018-2019 school year for in-state undergraduate students.

Officials said Friday's move will result in an average $351 increase per student and an average tuition of $14,363 for in-state students at UMass's four undergraduate campuses in Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth and Lowell.

Out-of-state undergraduate students will see a 3 percent increase, or $983 per student, bringing their tuition to about $32,200.

Board of Trustees Chairman Rob Manning said the increases are needed to preserve the quality of educational programs.

UMass has increased tuition an average of 2.8 percent annually since the 2015-2016 year.

School officials say the increases have fallen below the historic rate of inflation for the higher education sector.
