In hour one of Here & Now's June 29, 2017 full broadcast, lawmakers in Illinois are scrambling to hammer out a budget deal before the fiscal year ends Friday. Niala Boodhoo of the public radio program "The 21st" joins us with the latest on the crisis. Also, President Trump sent out two tweets Thursday morning, insulting the co-hosts of the MSNBC show "Morning Joe." We hear more about how the tweets reflect on the White House from NPR's David Folkenflik. And as part of the ongoing effort to defeat ISIS, the U.S. last month began arming Kurdish forces which operate as part of the Syrian Democratic Forces. Two scholars join us to take a closer look at the move, and what it might mean for the region's future. You can read and hear more at hereandnow.org, follow us on Twitter and join the conversation on Facebook and Tumblr.
