John McCain joined ex-Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney at an economic roundtable Wednesday. McCain wants to postpone a scheduled debate with Sen. Barack Obama to focus on the economic crisis. (AP) BOSTON - September 25, 2008 - It was a dire warning from President Bush: if Congress doesn't act fast on a Wall Street bailout, the country risks a "long and painful recession." The president will meet with legislative leaders, including Barack Obama and John McCain, at the White House this morning, to talk about a compromise plan. McCain and Obama will see each other this morning, but will they see each other at a debate that's planned for tomorrow? McCain has announced he'll suspend his campaign to focus on the financial crisis and he's asked Barack Obama to delay the debate, set for tomorrow night in Oxford, Mississippi. Obama has not agreed, and debate organizers say they'll press on. To sort all this out , we turn now to WBUR's politics analysts.
