Angels Beat Red Sox 5-4, Avoid Sweep
By Curt Nickisch

Listen to story (Real Audio)

BOSTON - October 06, 2008 - In major league baseball playoffs, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim snapped an eleven game postseason losing streak against the Boston Red Sox and avoided a sweep.

WBUR's Curt Nickisch reports.

The Los Angeles Angels earned the best regular season record, but promptly lost their first two playoff games at home. Last night at a chilly Fenway Park, both LA and Boston made mistakes, and the game was tied after nine innings. Red Sox fan Cam Dupre of Dover had been shivering in the stands for five hours.

DUPRE: It's never going to end; it's going to go about 22 innings.

Twelve actually. That's when the Angels went ahead. They now trail by one game in the best of five series. Boston has its last chance to clinch at home tonight. Game one winning pitcher Jonathan Lester takes the mound for the Red Sox.
