Forecast: Some Heavy Downpours Today

A warm front will move north today and bring an area of rain, some of it heavy. We'll get by the morning commute without any of the heavy showers. As a matter of fact, some of you will see completely dry conditions. As the morning progresses into the afternoon, periods of rain with tropical downpours will arrive.

In addition to the rain, I'm looking at some strong and gusty winds. There's even an outside chance that there could be a scattered power outage in a handful of spots, as the strongest gusts could exceed 30 miles an hour.

The humidity is in check this morning, but will rise later this afternoon and continue to go up overnight. It's a good idea to close up all your windows today and try to keep the cool air in as we have one very warm day on Wednesday with readings approaching 80. Tonight will turn muggy enough that you may even need the air conditioner to dry things out.

There may be another round of showers briefly Wednesday evening as a cold front approaches. This will push the warm and humid air out to sea and bring back the cooler and more comfortable air for Thursday and into the weekend

If you're wondering about foliage it's going to be somewhat late this year because of the warm start to the fall. There's been adequate precipitation across much of the region although parts of Vermont have been very dry so that can create faster leaf drop but also more vibrant colors.
