The ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and a paramilitary group called the Rapid Armed Forces has sparked a humanitarian crisis in one of the most vulnerable parts of the world. Fighting has destroyed food infrastructure and cut off aid to regions now experiencing famine. There's no sign of the conflict resolving, and the Sudanese government has accused the United Arab Emirates of supplying the Rapid Armed Forces with weapons.

Here & Now's Deepa Fernandes speaks with Kholood Khair, writer and founding director of Confluence Advisory, a think tank based in Khartoum. Khair is one of the authors of an article titled "Sudan Starves" in the New York Review of Books.

This segment aired on June 25, 2024.
