The Air National Guard unit at Joint Base Cape Cod, for whom admitted classified document leaker Jack Teixeira once worked, will restart its intelligence mission on June 1, 2024.

The 102nd Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group's work was suspended in April 2023 when Teixeira was arrested and charged with posting classified materials on Discord, a social media platform popular with people who play online games.

The Air Force announced today that the unit would resume its intelligence mission after the Secretary of the Air Force and Air Combat Command Inspector General re-inspected and implemented a new organizational structure.

The Air Force disciplined 15 people in connection to the case, finding that multiple individuals failed to act when Teixeira was caught improperly looking at classified information months before the arrest, according to the military branch's inspector general.

Texeira, who pleaded guilty in March to six counts filed under the Espionage Act, accessed and shared highly classified military documents about the war in Ukraine and other national security secrets. He has agreed to serve 16 years in prison and will be formally sentenced on Sept. 27.
