17-year-old fatally shot outside Lynn Market Basket

A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed outside of Market Basket in Lynn on Saturday night, according to Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker.

At a press conference Sunday, Tucker said an unknown assailant repeatedly shot the boy as he sat inside a parked car in front of the Market Basket at 40 Federal Street in Lynn. The vehicle then rolled into some bushes, where police officers later found the teen suffering from gunshot wounds, said Tucker. He was later pronounced dead at Salem Hospital.

Calling it a "busy night" for law enforcement, Tucker spoke to reporters about the Lynn shooting at a press conference while giving updates on a separate and unrelated weekend shooting at a pop-up party attended by hundreds in Methuen. Seven people — ranging in age from 17 to 22 — were shot at around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Two people were in critical condition, officials said. No arrests have yet been made in either shooting.

"Unfortunately, gun violence has been visited upon two very good communities in Lynn and in Methuen," said Tucker. "We're doing everything we can to bring the people who are responsible to justice."

The Lynn Police Department echoed Tucker's sentiments in a statement posted on social media, saying its officers, along with state law enforcement officials, are “committed to pursing every lead in this investigation."

"We will not stop until those responsible for this outrageous act of gun violence are held accountable," the statement added.
